I hate PowerPoint,do you?

This is REALLY TRUE: most people making PowerPoint have no power and point, those using excel don't excel and ultimately people skilled in Microsoft are both micro and soft in office. I never was good at PowerPoint since university and normally I find it difficult to make myself clear by using it. Later I realize that PPT distracts audience and put presenter in a "box". There are so many nice ways of presenting your ideas and PPT is the tool of mass distraction. I honestly hate it, how about you?

Please notice that it indicated that most people. Actually, most people have no power and points.

The weak people need some powerful tool to help them express their points.

PowerPoint is a tool, the key issue is how to use it.

On the contrary, I like to use PPT because I do not need to write long sentences, and pictures and excel can be inserted in to make the content fansy.

I got a presentation skill training before. The traniner was once a consultant for Apple Co. He said that the best presentation is no PPT. Make peoeple into your story.

As you can see that whe Steve Jobs presented on the press conference, he only express very simple points with very simple background.

The wrost PPT is that words are filled with the screen.

Tool is tool only , I do think how to use it is the key

I am shocked at your straightforward attitude towards PPT, because I hate it too    I am a slave to Powerpoints and more than half of my working time is spent on preparing and making PPTs.

Powerpoint could be powerful for those speech masters, by adding visual enhancers for their points and stories. However, the essence is that they already have their power points.

For most ordinary people, the ruthless truth is just like what is depicted in the book “Death by Powerpoint”. As a tool, Powerpoint is a "double-edged sword". To counter presenting boring screens of plain words, more and more people go to the other extreme as to introduce excessive visual elements and animations. In this way, they have a fair excuse to play tricky as their time-consuming efforts would be acknowledged for making the complicated PPTs, to skirt the problem that they are not eloquent and expressive in their presentations. Consequently, they become lazy in practicing deep logical thinking and coherent oral expressing, and eventually they have no points at all.

I couldn't agree more that we should not turn ourselves into slaves of PPT. On the other hand, it is also damn true that images and simplified headlines are very powerful tools when we do presentation. We are only empowered when we can leverage PPT to send out clear and straightforward messanges.

Rephasing of the truth Celina mentioned could make it clearer. It is your point and its power that matters, not the way you express it. Admiting that a pointless PPT is not charming at all, I think a pointless speach itself is annoying enough even without the PPT. And vice versa, if the speaker understands his piont profoundly, his PPT could still add value.

BTW, isn't it a good way to improve the PPT by make it "simple but not simpler"?

Exactly, I can't agree more on this.  BTW, you brought us a quite impressive and innovative product in your scene play.

I almost never use PPT, because: when I have a lot to say, it's better to write fully instead of stuffing it in PPT. If I have little to say, I just use some short phrases. No need to involve PPT, especially those distracting tricks, which may appear vivid but actually don't have any meaning.

That being said, I desperately need PPT skills....
