Re: Enter the Monkey

Post by ericzhangchi on Mon Oct 19, 2015 9:15 am

It really help me a lot since we were introduced about "Monkey Mind" in our first class. Actually, monkey mind is everywhere and happens to everyone in our daily life. If you exist in a perpetual state of distractedness, you will never tap into the deepest sources of concentration or even peace. In addition to the benefit mentioned in the article which can bring us back to sit, back to meditation by taming monkey mind, it also can bring out the creativity in us. Because monkey mind usually skitters out of the present into the future or the past, working with its natural tendencies and letting it lead us leap from story to story may lighten our solid thinking.

Re: Most men would rather shock themselves than be alone with their thoughts

Post by ericzhangchi on Mon Oct 19, 2015 9:58 am

A group of people blame this phenomenon on variety distractions we have in current society, for example, we prefer to grab our phones or pad when we are out of work or school. Distractions will always there, from outside and even inside like our monkey mind.  However, people would rather shock themselves than be alone with their thoughts is not only because that they prefer or get used to their busy life, but may also due to their inner fear. According to recent news report, more and more people feel terribly upset when they have nothing to do. People are afraid to face to themselves. It seems that we come to the world with missions, mission to pursue degree, to find a reputable job and create a better life for family. Some of us are so stuck in our missions and afraid to be alone with ourselves and men seem to have more pressures than women. Let your mind wandering, for creativity exploration and free yourself to better deal with your problems.

turn the monkey mind to innovation ideas

Post by Gao Zhiyang on Mon Oct 19, 2015 11:25 am

The article 1 is about the monkey brain, The monkey brain make people difficult to concentrate themselves into one certain thing, it makes peoples' brain sometimes full of crazy ideas and sometimes empty. The article introduced some ways to control the monkey minds, not to get rid of it, but to work together with it.
The better people control it, the better he or she can concentrate one one certain thing or become better in creating new practicable ideas.

Rather than thinking, people prefer to do something, even if they will do something that need they spend money to avoid unpleasant things at ordinary times. Untrained mind don't like to stay alone. The causes of gender differences may be men tend to seek feelings. So how can people more adapt to think alone? Study, meditation can help. And occasionally put down mobile devices may also be useful.

Monkey mind is a very mystical thing for me actually. I never heard of this saying before this class, but I think nearly everyone had experienced it everyday. If we train ourselves and learn how to control it, we can benefit a lot from it. The monkey mind is very light and variable, the body is heavier and more stable, so as the monkey mind interacts with the body it begins to slow down and settle. We can use it well one day for more focused and concentrated on a particular thing. I really hope our teacher can tell us some ways to train it.

The monkey mind is existing in everyone's subconscious but rarely has been realized. This article and the class has taught and delivered us a very interesting introduction and practice on how to recognize and tame the monkey mind, through which we could be more concentrated and productive. Under the rapidly development environment and chaotic society, we are too busy to stop for a while and inspect what are going around us. The meditation with monkey mind well trained would benefit us a lot to refresh our mind and shake off unnecessary distractions. Be the strong master of our mind, and eventually the real master of our lives.
